Resources

A job involving human resources is, indeed, very challenging. If you are equipped with the right skills and values, a human resource job is also very rewarding.

So what makes a good human resource manager?

Remember that you will be dealing with individuals and each of them has different traits from the other. Among the most important skills you need to have, therefore, are people skills. You need to be able to handle people as they are, and not misjudge them in any way.

To be an effective manager, you need to go beyond recruiting and hiring because your job doesn’t end there at all. Once you have people in your flock to manage already, bigger responsibilities come in.

Take time to know your people; take time to discover their strengths and weaknesses. In the case of the former, find out ways you can nurture their strengths. Place them accordingly and give them work assignments that will enable them to put their skills to good use. Give them the proper training, too, so that they may be able to learn to cope with their weaknesses and use them constructively.

Don’t belittle your function; as human resource manager, you have a very important role to play. Keep in mind that the success of an organization often depends on good people management.
If you are managing a human resources department, take advantage of the internet. You must know that the World Wide Web has a virtual library of everything that you may find very useful in running your office and keeping it organized. There are many blogs and articles that can offer expert advice and solutions to any concerns you may have.

With the internet, you can make your people become more involved. Set up an online presence of your department by registering for an account with social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace. Everyone is twitting these days, and so must you. Register with Twitter and use the Instant Messenger to inform your employees of anything and everything that goes in and around your department.

The internet is also a great way for you to learn and for your employees to get trained. Find out how you can enroll yourselves in e-training programs being offered by some human resources websites.

It is also a good idea to set up a mini website on your company’s intranet if it has one. If it doesn’t, it may be a good thing to start your own website where you can post your organization’s values, mission and vision, messages from the management, training other development events, and many other things that are sure to benefit your employees.
There’s no doubt about it, the Human Resources Department is one of the most important departments of any organization. It serves as the backbone of the company, the one thing that enables it to stand.

The statement that “no one is an island” applies to organizations, too, even those that claim to be, by and large, automated. Indeed, what is a company without human resources?

Back in the old days, the human resource department focused on leadership, solidarity, and loyalty in, as well as economic viability of the organization. However, as the years moved on, the concept of human resource management also dramatically changed to something that’s more interactive. The goal of this department is no longer concentrated on the economic viability of the corporation, but on the social aspects, too. Individuals are now made to feel more important and not merely used as tools for the financial growth of the company. Moreover, the Human Resource Department has taken a more active role in fulfilling the goals of the entire organization, not just the goals of the department.

The Human Resource Department caters to the needs of the individual members and makes sure that they are motivated to do their tasks well. It handles many aspects in relation to one’s employment – salaries, benefits, and so on.
