Meditation for Career Success

Written by: Zabrina Way

If you’re like most of us, you separate your work and your personal life. You go to work, come home to your family and friends, and then relax. The moments of joy in your life are probably not associated with your job, and when they are, it’s an unusual occurrence.

Meditation for career success may seem cheesy or too new-age for many people to venture into it, but if you are open-minded and willing to try it, you can benefit enormously from it.

Practicing meditation helps improve your ability to relax and calm down, center you and ground you, give you a renewed sense of purpose, and more. Some studies have even found that long-term meditation can help increase your IQ and more.

The first step in career success is finding a career that satisfies your needs. If you don’t already know what career will make you happy, meditation will help you find it. The practice helps you get in touch with your inner self and gives you the peace of mind and healthy attitude that will encourage you to acknowledge how you really feel about a particular career choice.

Once you have chosen a career, meditation can help you improve your mental clarity and focus, so that you can obtain a job in the field you desire.

After you have your ideal job, meditation gives you a way to live perfectly in every moment. Even when you are stressed or overwhelmed, you can use the techniques you learn in meditation to help yourself stay calm and grounded.

If these career success benefits sound like something worth practicing meditation to obtain, you can start it today! The great thing about meditation is that you don’t need to get any fancy equipment or take lessons to do well. You can teach yourself and practice any time you want to.

To start meditating, find a calm and quiet place where you won’t be interrupted. (Once you are experienced enough, you can meditate in even noisy environments, but for the beginner, a calm environment is best.) Then sit in a comfortable, relaxed pose and close your eyes. Allow yourself to become in tune with your thoughts and breathing, regulating them. When you have a thought, acknowledge it and then let it go as you try to get a clear mind. Your breathing should be at a regular pace – for example, breathe in for four beats and then breathe out for four beats. Set a length of time to do this – fifteen minutes is a good length of time to start with, as it won’t take up too much time but will allow you to find a peaceful spot in your mind without being disturbed too soon.

Once you have practiced meditation, you will notice the benefits as you calm down. You can consciously use it in your everyday work life, too. If you get too stressed, just breathe regularly and strive to attain that same grounded, calm feeling that you get when meditating.

Meditation can be a great way to enhance your career success if you’re willing to give it a try!
