Just because you have an unfinished basement does not mean that you have to ignore the space. In fact, you can spruce up this room in your home and may even be able to use it in many ways upon completion. One of the best ways to brighten up an unfinished basement is with the proper accessories.
Here are a few accessories to add to your unfinished basement:
1. Lighting. No matter what, you need to bring light into your basement. This is true no matter if it is finished or not. Some basements do have windows, but even if they do it is not usually enough natural light to make much of a difference. Don’t feel like you have to hang expensive light fixtures. Instead, opt for pole lamps, table lamps, and any other variation that can be moved around to suit your needs.
2. Plants. If you want to bring your unfinished basement to life you should add some plants, here and there. You do not want to overdo it, though. One or two plants, well placed, should be enough to improve the overall feel of your basement. Whether or not you opt for real or fake is up to you.
3. Area rugs. In most cases, an unfinished basement has cement floors. As you know, this is anything but inviting and comfortable. Fortunately, you can cover up a large portion of these floors with a nice area rug. No matter your tastes or size constraints, you can find an area rug that will look great in your basement.
4. Wall art. While the walls may not have dry wall on them, you can still hang wall art. This includes anything from photos of your family to simple art that you can find at the store. No matter what, when you hang pictures on unfinished walls you are doing a lot in improving their appearance.
5. Candles. It goes without saying that some unfinished basements just don’t smell that great. It has nothing to do with you or your cleanliness, but more so the fact that the room is underground. Why not add a few candles throughout your space to let off a nice aroma? Even when they are not burning candles can take the “edge off” and make your basement more inviting.
It is not always easy or cheap to finish a basement space. For this reason, you may want to leave well enough alone for the time being. If you opt not to finish your space, you can still brighten up your basement by adding the right accessories. Lighting, plants, area rugs, wall art, and candles can all go a long way in improving the appearance of your unfinished basement.
