Do you have a sunroom in your home? Is it time to upgrade this space? If you want to remodel your sunroom you may be able to take on the job without any outside help. A do it yourself sunroom remodeling project can be a lot of fun. And of course, it will payoff big time in the long run. This is added living space that will definitely increase the overall value of your home.

Here are five questions to ask yourself if you are interested in a do it yourself sunroom remodeling project?

1. What needs to be done? It goes without saying that your project is going to be different than the next homeowners. You may not need to do anything major – just a few minor fixes here and there. On the other hand, you may want to tear your sunroom down to the bones and start from scratch. Before you begin, make sure you know what needs to be done.

2. Do you have to replace the windows? It goes without saying that one of the most important features of a sunroom is the windows. After all, your main goal is to let in the light from the outside. If your windows are not in good condition you will want to replace them. Obviously, this leads to the question of whether or not you have the knowledge to do so without professional help.

3. How many seasons do you want to be able to use your sunroom? This is a question that you definitely need to ask if you live in the snow belt. Do you want your sunroom to be accessible in the winter months when temperatures drop below freezing? If so, you need to think about how you are going to get heat into the room.

4. Is your sunroom going to be open to the rest of the home? Or will you use a door to close it off? This goes along with point number three. If you want your sunroom to be usable at all times, regardless of the season, you may want to take out the door and leave it open – this gives your home a larger feel and more livable space. Of course, if you have heat going into the room regardless this is something you may be able to forget about.

5. Do you need any help? There may be particular aspects of a sunroom remodel that you can handle on your own. Everything else may need to be hired out. There is no reason to avoid hiring a professional. This is a good way to get the job done right the first time.
