How to Upgrade your Bathroom on the Cheap

If you are like most people, you spend a good amount of time in the bathroom. In fact, some people are in this room for many hours everyday. While you may not spend so much time on your bathroom, it is safe to say that you use it from time to time. For this reason, you want to make sure you enjoy the space. There are many ways to upgrade your bathroom without spending a lot of money. Not only are upgrades good for you, but they also increase the value of your home. Talk about the best of both worlds!

One of the best ways to upgrade your bathroom is by painting the room. This is an inexpensive project that is easy to complete. Choose a color that works well in your space, as well as with your flooring, fixtures, and accessories. A lighter color will help to make a small bathroom look bigger. For many, this is a trick that really helps.

Since most bathrooms are not overly large, updating the flooring can be an affordable job. Before you do anything, you need to consider what type of flooring you are going to use. For the most part, vinyl or ceramic tile is the best choices for bathrooms. They are durable, stand up well to water, and feel nice on your bare feet. This is in stark contrast to carpet that can promote mold, or wood flooring that tends to warp over time. If you have the ability to lay the floor yourself, you can save even more money.

While you are working on the floor you may want to think about surrounding your tub with an upgraded material, such as ceramic tile. This is a great way to give your bathtub a “spa-like” look and feel. Again, this is an inexpensive job and one that you may be able to handle on your own.

Don’t overlook minor details such as accessories, towels, and fixtures. For instance, upgrading your towel racks can go a long way in giving your bathroom a more comfortable atmosphere. It is often times the simple and inexpensive changes that make the most difference. You don’t want to get so caught up in the major details that the minor ones slide by without notice.

Deciding that your bathroom needs an upgrade is the easy part. Soon enough you will have to make the tough decisions. What are you going to change? What are you going to keep the same? As you move through the design process you should realize that there are ways to get what you want, while still saving money. All of the information above should help you upgrade your bathroom on the cheap.
