Is the paint on the exterior of your home beginning to look drab? If so, it may be time to think about an upgrade. It is never easy to decide what paint color will look best on the exterior of your home – this is a big decision. The outside of your home is the first thing that people see when they pull up. Not to mention the fact that this is what your neighbors have to look at day after day.
If you are in the process of selecting a paint color, consider these five tips:
1. Color of the brick, siding, etc. It goes without saying that your home probably is not only painted wood. There is a good chance that there is some siding, brick, stone, or some other material. In this case, you need to make sure that you choose a color that matches. If possible, take a sample or picture with you to the store when choosing a paint color.
2. What do you have to paint? You need to know what needs painted, down to every last detail. For instance, you may only be painting the trim. But on the other hand, you may have to paint your garage doors, front door, and many other parts of your home. It is always good to know what needs painted before you actually get started.
3. Don’t go too bold. You may be tempted to get risky with your color choice and use something that is unique. Although this can payoff, you have to be 100 percent sure that this is going to be the case. If you go too bold, such as a bright red color, you may end up regretting it soon enough. And as you know, regret may lead to doing the job all over again.
4. Look at what your neighbors have done. Although you do not want your home to look the same as everybody else in your neighborhood, this is a great way to get a few ideas. Do you see a color that you like? If so, you may want to follow the same path so you know that you are getting something that will look good.
5. Test on a small area of your home before completing the entire job. The last thing you want to do is paint your entire home just to realize that the color is not turning out as you thought it would. Test a small area, wait for it to dry, and then take a close look. Do you like what you see? If so, you can continue forward.
With these tips you can easily choose the paint color that will look best on your home.
