For those who are still unaware on what Access Providers are, here is a quick overview on what it is and its significance.

Access Providers can be defined as any group or organizations that actually make the arrangement in order for a company, individual or organization to have internet access. In its broadest sense, they are classified into 2 major classifications namely ISP's or Internet Access Providers and OSP's or Online Service Providers.

You might be wondering what makes ISP different from OSP. ISP's may be defined as businesses operating locally and pays for high speed internet connection to any one of the companies which are part of the Internet. Examples of these companies are Sprint, MCI and AT&T (in the United States). They can either be international or national companies that own their networks.

OSP’s, on the other hand, are also referred to as online services. They have their own networks as well. However, they also provide extra services and information which are not offered to non-subscribers. In the U.S., America Online is considered as the most well-known and highly successful OSP.

Access providers sometimes have their own POP or point-of-presence on the Internet. In some instances, it can also be a company which has telecommunication connection to another company with POP.
When you get free internet, this basically means getting web access for no expense at all, although this access will have to be restricted at some point or other. Internet service providers or ISPs are the ones which provide free Internet access. As long as your account remains active with the ISP, you will be able to access the web, including the sites and applications therein. There are providers which do not require you to pay a monthly fee; however, you only need to pay for the hours used up online.

Access-4-free allows you an access of 10 hours monthly, for free, however for the excess, you will need to pay a dollar per hour. The set-up fees are often just approximately 5 dollars.

If you are from Rhode Island, Massachusetts, or New Hampshire, you can get free web access from FreeDialup.org. However, you must have a caller ID before you can avail of this service.

For 10 hours per month, you can get free internet from NetZero. This service can be availed of by internet users throughout the country. You may upgrade to premium membership if you want better web access.

You only have to pay up 6.5 cents per minute if you go for 10-10-2000. There is no monthly Internet fee needed. The services of this company can be acquired by those who reside in the eastern regions of the U.S.
Access providers can be defined as any organization whose job is to make arrangements for a company, organization or individual to have internet access. In general, they are divided into to major classifications namely Internet access providers or ISP's and online service providers or OSP's. The question is, how does one differ from the other?

The first type which is the ISP can actually be local businesses that invest money or pay for a high-speed internet connection to one major company such as Sprint or AT&T which are of the internet. The companies may be international or national and they have their own networks.

The second type which is the OSP is also being referred to as “online services”. OSP's have their own networks also. However, they provide additional information services that are not made available among non-subscribers. The most successful and probably the most popular example of an OSP is America Online.

Access providers may have their own point-of presence or POP on the internet. Or, it may also be a certain company that has telecommunication connection to another company with a POP

Lastly, an access provider is different from a "space provider" or virtual host. However, there are some access providers that also provide some space for a website. They offer this as part of their service.
