How to Save Money on Your Auto Insurance

The car insurance business is booming and let’s face it they have you over a barrel don’t they? Nearly every state in the United States has a law requiring that you have valid auto insurance or proof of self insuring prior to being able to license and operate your motor vehicle.

What that means to you is that if you’re a driver, and chances are that you have to be, you’ve got to pay that auto insurance every month or year or else you don’t drive. That means that you need to find a way to get the auto insurance that you need for a price that you can afford.

One way to do that is to comparison shop. Depending on where you live, where your car is housed, how far you drive to and from work, along with other factors such as your driving record, you’re going to pay more… or less for your auto insurance.

Comparison shopping will help you to find a company that can save you money on the premiums but a few other tips will also help you to save money and cut your insurance premiums too.

Make sure that you watch your speed, and keep a close watch on your tickets. This goes without saying but do you know that if you have a driver listed on your vehicle who has a ticket that your insurance goes up? Even if that driver isn’t you the fact holds to make sure that anyone who is listed on your insurance is a driver with a relatively clear record to keep your insurance premiums lower and consider not listing them if they have multiple tickets.

Keeping your car inside at night, particularly in a larger city will lower the cost of your insurance. Most insurance companies feel, and rightly so, that an auto kept in a garage or parking facility will be better protected from vandals or other problems that could cost them money.

Sharing the ride or carpooling lowers the mileage that you drive each year. This in turn lowers your premiums to the insurance companies who take that into account when they tally up your total premiums. You’re saving not only gas and the environment but your own insurance costs as well.
