Are you in the process of buying a new home? If so, you should realize how important it is to keep the lines of communication open. While this may make sense on the surface, you need to dig a bit deeper to fully understand who you should be speaking with and how often.
Here are a few things to keep in mind:
1. You must be willing and able to communicate with your agent, day in and day out. You are going to have many questions along the way, and it is safe to say that your agent will as well. Make sure you choose a real estate agent that you are comfortable talking to. If you find yourself with an agent who you do not like, it becomes very difficult to get through the buying process.
2. If the home is for sale by owner, you will want to communicate directly with them. This is a bit different than speaking with your agent, because the seller is on “the other side.” In other words, they are trying to get the deal that is best for them. While this may be the case, you still have to communicate on a regular basis. Of course, if you have a real estate agent they can help act as the middleman. It may be unusual to negotiate directly with the seller, but in some cases this is something that you have to do.
3. Are you interested in open houses? If so, you should become familiar with communicating with the selling agent – they are the ones that run these events. The good thing is that you do not have to say much. Just make sure you are getting the information you need from the agent to make an informed decision on whether or not you want to move forward. At some point your agent will enter the mix, at which point you can back off and let him handle all the negotiations with the sellers.
Don’t go into the home buying process with a false sense that you will never have to speak with anybody. It is very important that you open the lines of communication, and are willing to be in contact with as many people as it takes to achieve success.
When you are always on the go, speaking with those who can help, you will find yourself ready to make a good deal on the home you are interested in buying. The three situations above should show you just how important it is to keep an open line of communication.
