Fast-changing Fads in Consumer Electronics Confuse Customers

The quality and quantity of consumer electronics has rapidly increased over the last few years; consumers are now having a hard time keeping up with the latest fad.

If your cell phone needs a new charger and you went to visit the shop where you bought it two years ago to buy a new one, chances are that model and that charger are no longer available. In consumer electronics, things age so fast they become obsolete even though they are still usable.

Watchers in the consumer electronics industry like to talk about the next big thing, which refers to the newest technological advances that will change people’s lives. Next-big-things are usually displayed during exhibits and shows. The one who garner the most attention gets that dubious honor, until the next big thing comes along.
The truth, however, is that most true innovations in consumer electronics takes years to reach broad market acceptance, which is why timing is everything. Most technological products or services reach their critical turning point when they reach that first 5% to 10% of the potential market. Depending on the market’s response, they may either be doomed as fads or might break away into a widespread area.
