With home health care, a patient can be cared for in one’s own home. He can receive the medical care he needs right at his bedroom. Skilled caregivers must administer this kind of medical care. Family members, family friends, and volunteer or paid caregivers may help with home health care. However, in the strictest sense, home health care is administered by licensed personnel.
The basic goal of home health care is for a sick person to stay in the comfort and convenience of his home and still receive the medical assistance that he needs. In stead of being institutionalized for long-term care, they can stay with their family at home.
Home health care services comprise of both life assistance service and professional health care service. Life assistance service covers daily chores such as laundry, meal preparations, basic housekeeping, giving of medications, purchasing for the patient, transporting, and other errands required. This service would include ADL or activities of daily living namely; baths, meals, physical transfers, toilet usage assistance, grooming and dressing-up.
Professional home health care will also include psychological assessment, medical assessment, wound care, pain management, physical therapy, occupational and speech therapy, and many others.
Many patients prefer the comfort and security of home, especially in times of sickness. Home health care allows them to receive the medical attention they need in that setting.
