Online Chat – Bridging the Distance and Keeping in Touch

The internet allows people from different parts of the world to get in touch in many ways such as through social networking sites and online chat. There is no doubt that the internet had made the world smaller. One of the huge advantages of being online is having the opportunity to reach out to the people whom you want to talk to in just a few clicks.

Chatting is by far the most efficient communication tool online. It bridges the gap between people. The best part is that, with the use of a webcam, they can even see each other right on the computer screen while chatting. For those who are not good at typing and would rather talk, voice chat is another option. Both parties should simply connect a headset with a microphone to the computer and they can talk as if they are on the phone. Chatting is fun and easy. It does not only allow people to keep in touch but it also makes it possible for them to meet new friends from other countries and actually see them through the webcam.

Online chat can be done using an Instant Messenger program. The most popular by far are Yahoo (YM), MSN and Google Talk. Social networking sites also allow people who are on the same network to be able to chat. Examples for this are Facebook, MySpace and recently, Multiply.
