Self Improvement: What areas to focus on first?

Written by: Chris Bibey

Sometimes, it can be difficult to determine where to start when trying to improve your life. In other words, self improvement is not as cut and dry as it sounds. That being said, if you know where to focus your time and energy first everything should begin to fall into place. Of course, deciding where to start is not always simple.

If you are stuck and do not know what you are doing, here are a few things to try:

1. Decide what area of your life needs the most work. Once you answer this question everything else should fall into place. For example, do you need to work on your confidence? What about your anger management skills? It goes without saying that you probably have an idea of what needs your focus, and what you can forget about for the time being.

2. What are you most comfortable working on at the time being? Sometimes you need to improve the areas where you know you can have success. For instance, if you are comfortable bettering your leadership skills you should put your time and energy into this for the time being. Although it may be only one thing that you need to improve, it is better to get started on something you are comfortable with than nothing at all.

3. What will benefit you the most? To answer this question you may have to dig a bit deeper. Some people want to focus on areas of their life that can help them improve their career. Others do not need help in this area, but instead should touch on details that will help them forge better relationships at home. There is nothing wrong with focusing on one area for the time being, and then moving onto others when necessary.

It goes without saying that most people need to improve upon several parts of their life. Even though you can only do one or two things at a time, knowing where to get started will put you in good position for future success.

So, what area of your life needs the most help? Once you answer this question you will be well on your way. Do yourself a favor and try out the three tips above if you are having a difficult time deciding where to start. Remember, as long as you are doing something to help yourself you are better off than you are when standing still.
